Central Library of Bidhan Chandra College was established in 1961. It was initially established in a
room which was later shifted into a 5000 sq. ft beautiful unit specially built for the library in 2006.
The College Library has a rich collection of more than 36000 books on various disciplines in the field
of Science, Arts and Commerce. Books are classified according to the 23 rd edition of Dewey Decimal
Classification. Library books are well organized in the spacious stack area. The library follows Open
Access System for the user’s convenience and the maximum utilization of its resources. The
spacious reading room of the library can accommodate 66 students to complete their reference
work. Latest computer with high-speed internet service is provided in the library to cater student’s
demand.
The library is fully computerized with latest version of SOUL 3.0 integrated library management
software. The entire process of circulation is done through bar coding machine in a hassle-free
manner. Digitized library cards are provided to the users to minimize the time of circulation process.
The collection of the library is available online through the WEBOPAC facility of the SOUL. Library
collections can also be searched through internet from anywhere at any time as per the convenience
of the users. Students are informed through personalized e-mail services at the time of issue/return
of the books.
The College Library plays a vital role in the collection development and dissemination of information
to meet the present and future needs of the users. Old university question papers can be accessed
